Ridgeland Veterans Memorial Park

PAVERS FOR PATRIOTS

We are now working on the next group of pavers for the Ridgeland Veterans Memorial Park.  The deadline to submit payment and applications to Town Hall for this group is March 31, 2012.

"Individual Veterans Pavers" cost $100 and the application form is green.  The eligibility criteria for living and deceased veterans who served honorably includes:

-Any veteran who is or was a Jasper County resident.

-Any veteran who is or was employed in Jasper County even if the veteran never resided in the county.

-Any veteran who is or was a family member of a Jasper County resident even if the veteran never resided in the county.

"Thank You Veterans Pavers" cost $250 and the application form is yellow.  These are available for any individual or family, any group or organization, or any business, etc.  There is no requirement to be a veteran.  There are less than 200 pavers remaining in this section and this offer will not be repeated.

Paver forms are available at Ridgeland Town Hall and Hardeeville City Hall.  Please contact me at 843-726-3200 if you have questions.

We hope that you will visit the Ridgeland Veterans Memorial Park.

Grahamville Sewer Extension

PROJECT IS COMPLETE!

February 8, 2011 - We are headed north on Bees Creek Road on the final stretch of gravity sewer.  After the installation is complete crews will return to finish the interior of the manholes and will continue to maintain the entire site.

January 19, 2011 - Construction has returned to the SC-336 Main Street - Bees Creek Road intersection.  This time, however, we are heading north on Bees Creek Road.  Bores are being done to avoid impacting oak trees as much as possible.  Lane closures will be common during this phase as well, so exercise caution in the area.

December 6, 2010 - Gravity sewer installation is now headed south along Bees Creek Road.  Please be aware of the lane closure near the construction and please slow down.

The contractor has been very proactive in contacting residents along the road in order to prevent inconveniencies.  If and when they contact you please talk to them to let them know your concerns.  You may also contact the Town directly if you are more comfortable with us.

November 9, 2010 - Construction has reached Bees Creek Road.  The Construction trench shows the different layers of soil types in the Grahamville area.contractor is preparing a bore across SC-336 to avoid impacting the existing trees and roadway.  High groundwater has made this somewhat troublesome, but well points will dry the area out prior to the boring process.

October 18, 2010 - Construction is going well.  The contractor has placed several manholes and has bored two crossline pipes to serve the north side of SC-336.  Some clearing had to be done in order to lay the pipe, but this has not slowed the schedule as yet.  We are now nearing the Bees Creek Road intersection so please keep an eye out.

September 23, 2010 - CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN!  Contractors today began turning dirt and installing pipe.  Please slow down on Main Street east of I95 Exit 21 while construction is underway.  A lane shift will be in place for the work on Main, while lane closures are expected for Bees Creek Road.

September 1, 2010 - After much paperwork and red tape, the project is ready to begin.  The contractor will mobilize to the site beginning Tuesday, September 7.  The equipment will be staged from the Town's property at the intersection of SC-336 and Bees Creek Road.  Construction will begin soon thereafter and will begin at Kelmont Drive and work its way east.

June 22, 2010 - Construction is expected to begin soon on the long-awaited gravity sewer extension to Grahamville.  Beginning at Kelmont Drive near Wendys, the project will proceed east to the intersection of Bees Creek Road.  From that intersection the new lines will be placed north and south along Bees Creek Road.  The northern leg will terminate near Ingram Drive while the southern leg will end across from the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

Updates on this project will be posted here frequently to provide everyone with enough notice of possible traffic delays.

Well Rehabilitation

PROJECT IS COMPLETE!

The Town is placing Well #1 back into operation.  This well is located near where the original water tower was, behind the Palms Restaurant.  The picture you see here is the proposed building sketch.

February 8, 2011 - We are nearing completion on the exterior of the building.  While electrical work and equipment inside is still underway, masonry and roofing are the only remaining items outside.

January 19, 2011 - We are now through the holidays and work is nearing completion on the well house although it may not look like it.  The brick masons are scheduled for next week.  This will put the final exterior work on the building, while electrical work is still going on inside.

December 6, 2010 - Masonry work has now begun, so you will see some vertical construction now.  The exterior finish will be red brick and all architectural details are made to blend the building into the existing neighborhood.

November 9, 2010 - Construction is well underway.  The contractor is preparing electrical conduits prior to pouring the slab.

October 18, 2010 - In case you haven't noticed, construction has begun on Well #1.  To date, the contractor has poured the new well foundation and will be placing distribution pipes soon.  Once the piping on the outside of the building is completed, the structure itself will commence.

Jimmy Mixson Water Reclamation Facility

August 2011 - The Town has selected Aqua Aerobics to supply equipment to our Sequential Batch Reactor treatment facility.  Notice the name change for the project in honor of 44-year employee Jimmy Mixson.

September 1, 2010 - Preliminary design reports and applications have been submitted to the USDA Office of Rural Development.  The USDA is anticipated to provide a grant/loan package that will enable the town to construct the new WWTP.  Total cost for the WWTP is anticipated around $12 - $14 million.

June 22, 2010 - The Town of Ridgeland is currently in the design phase of an expansion and upgrade of its Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The current plant is a secondary treatment facility rated at 800,00 gallons per day. Current flows to the plant are reaching near this limit and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control dictates that the Town expand to accommodate these flows.

In addition to capacity expansion to 1.6 million gallons per day, the new facility will provide an increased level of treatment.  The current plans are to utilize Sequential Batch Reactors to provide tertiary treatment of the wastewater to near-drinking-water standards.

As the project is in the early stages of design, updates will not be frequent.  However, as the project progresses and details become available, we will post them here.  Construction should begin by early 2011 and take approximately 8-12 months.

Water Tank Rehabilitation

The High School Elevated Water Tank, an integral part of the Town's water distribution system, is located behind the old Ridgeland High School adjacent to the Jasper-Ridgeland Youth Baseball facilities.  As you can see from the pictures, it was time for some much-needed maintenance.  Town Council also decided to honor the local baseball programs by adding the logo to the tower.  The tower was thoroughly cleaned, sandblasted, and repainted so that it may continue to be of service for years to come.

Tuten Park

As a welcome to visitors and an honor to a former mayor, Ralph Tuten Memorial Park was constructed over a former drainage ditch between two thriving town businesses.  The park offers a comfortable respite for travelers with benches, a fountain, a pet area, and even lights and music at Christmas.

Ridgeland Police Department

The Town Police Department has outgrown its spaces in Town Hall.  Thanks to the department's drug enforcement efforts, this proposed building will be funded by the Drug Fund exclusively.

Veterans Memorial Park

This is a conceptual drawing for a park to be located across from Town Hall.  Mayor Hodges is leading the initial planning.

Farmer's Market

Ridgeland's Farmer's Market is located on the south end of Ridgeland on US-17.  A cooperative effort by government and independent agencies has brought this once-thriving building back to life.
